Remember how great "You and Me Song" was back in '97? This song brings me back to those precocious preteen years. I'll forever associate The Wannadies with those aimless few years that made my life unpresumptuous, guiltless, and fun. "You and me forever and always ba bapa-bapa." God, I love this song.

The Wannadies- You and Me Song

Benjamin Diamond's sophomore effort Out of Myself is just so infectious and sweet, that in contrast, makes all other pop music sound bitter and inherently lame. These songs are enchanting and delightful, aptly gracing you off your feet.

a couple of thoughts. new madonna single is pretty much perfect. the radio edit does not do the album cut justice. i will draft kobe if given the third overall draft pick; however, if dirk gets center elegibility i may change my mind. the softies have the most aestheticly pleasing album covers. twee-pop is not as enjoyable as it once was (inspired by pitchfork). i'm considering labeling myself as a noise-experimental guy, but for now, some more fabulous pop music from indie to dance to twee.

I don't know too much about the Aluminum Group, although they are relatively popular. I know they are based in Chicago and I happen to like one of their songs. I rediscovered this track flipping through my singles folder on my dad's computer. Not much to say about this track, besides it reminds me a lot of Kings of Convenience.
The Aluminum Group- Pop

I'm doing you guys a real favor by posting this song. It's that good. You'll see.
Au Revoire Simone- The Disco Song

If I had to choose one song to sum up twee-pop, it's gotta be Rocketship's "Hey Hey Girl." It's not the most important or relevent track, but it's held up the best.

I’m hesitant to label Desormais as simply an ambient or post-rock group because that term fails to describe the collective’s sound. Their music is perhaps best described as drowning, a completely enveloping wash of avant-ambient noise. Think a more organic-sounding Fennesz, or a more assertive Kammerflimmer Kollectief. “Salt Eyes Fuck Yeh” is from their upcoming release, Dead Letters to Lost Friends.

Suzanne Vega was one of the first female artists to gain fame as part of the late 80’s/early 90’s alt-rock boom, and for better or worse helped kicked off the lilith fair, female singer-songwriter thing that had so much commercial success in the later 90’s. Truthfully, most of that shit is awful, so I’d prefer “Luka” to stand on its own as an off-kilter pop hit unassociated with that movement, and I imagine Vega would as well. The song is deceptively coy in pairing its emotional lyrical subject matter (domestic abuse) with a seemingly simple and catchy melody. As a result, the song is never overbearing nor preachy, and works as an endlessly hummable, if slightly unsettling pop song.

Suzanne Vega - Luka

Without exaggeration, the Jeans Team's "Arthur" could possibly be my favorite song of the year (with strong competition from Ladytron’s "Destroy Everything You Touch" and M83’s "Teen Angst"). With an undeniable hook, a beat that won’t quit, and most importantly hot french girl vocals, this song never fails to put a smile on my face every time I give it a spin. Now it’s your turn.

Rocky IV is pretty much the most rewatchable movie ever. Let's put it this way, I've seen this more than Bloodsport and First Blood combined. Every scene is pretty much gorgeous and insanely beautiful, but the one scene that has me crapping in my pants is Rocky's training montage. These sequence of images are backed by the the most absurdly awesome track I have ever heard. As far as soundtracks go, this track is unparalleled.

Rocky IV- Training Montage

Don't worry Dave. This is just the beginning of my new series of awesomely bad songs.

Ok.. with all the hype these guys have been receiving in the past months, in all likelihood, the 3 or 4 of you reading this blog have already heard this song. Regardless, I’m going to post Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe in Anything” in the rare case y’all have been living in a cave and because well, it’s one of the best songs of the year. Excuse the sentimental leanings of this post, but if I can get a bit nostalgic for a moment, above all this song takes me back to a simpler, more idyllic time in my life, in college and apart from dealing with post-undergraduate anxieties and pressures, reminding me of why between the ages of 17-22, indie rock so fucking ruled my life.

I know me some pop music. and some of the power-pop coming out from early 90's was some ridiculous shit. These were addictive as curt 3 minute pop songs traced with cocaine, bubblegum and unicorns. Like Adam Banks and Julie Gaffney, power-pop never stood a chance. Well, many of these lost and forgotten gems are chronicled in the remarkable Yellow Pills anthology. This 4 disc-set gets my deservingly high approval rating of an 8.9.

This song rocks.
Adam Schmitt- Speed Kills

This song rules.
The Rubinoos- The Girl

This song is incredible.
Chris Von Sneidern- Open Wide
